Nutrition tracking, on the same week as your doses

A GLP-1 receptor agonist changes how much you eat. Whether the weight that comes off is mostly fat depends a great deal on what you eat. Both belong next to the dose.

The nutrition log records calories and macros. You can log a meal three ways: photograph the plate, scan a barcode, or type it. Food lands on the same week as your doses, which matters for anything that affects appetite and for anyone trying to hold muscle while losing weight.

How it works, step by step

  1. Photograph the plate for a cooked meal, scan the barcode for packaged food, or type it when neither fits.
  2. Check the entry. Calories and macros (protein, carbohydrate, fat) are recorded against the meal.
  3. See the week. Meals sit on the same timeline as the dose log, so the days after a weekly injection can be compared with the days before it.

Why food belongs on the dose timeline

GLP-1 receptor agonists slow stomach emptying and act on appetite in the brain. People on them commonly eat much less, and the effect has a weekly shape: appetite is often lowest in the day or two after the shot. Without a food log, "I am not eating much" is all you can say. With one, you can see how much less, on which days, and whether protein holds up when total intake drops. The food noise page covers the appetite side.

Protein is the part that matters most for body composition. In the STEP 1 trial of semaglutide 2.4 mg, a body composition substudy found that lean mass made up roughly 40 percent of the total weight lost. Fat fell by more, so the proportion of the body that was lean actually rose, but the absolute loss of lean mass was not small. A 2017 review in Advances in Nutrition on preserving muscle during weight loss concluded that adequate protein helps preserve lean mass, and that both endurance and resistance exercise help too, with resistance exercise also improving strength. The GLP-1 muscle loss and lean mass studies pages cover the trials in detail.

Why logging food helps at all

Dietary self-monitoring is the most studied part of behavioural weight management. The 2011 systematic review by Burke and colleagues found 15 studies of dietary self-monitoring and a consistent association with weight loss, while warning that the evidence quality was limited by self-report and narrow samples. Three ways to log is a practical answer to the main reason people stop: friction. A photo is faster than a search, a barcode is faster than a photo, and typing is there for everything else.

Which way to log, and when

Photo of the plateHome-cooked and restaurant mealsPortion size; any photo estimate is an estimate
BarcodePackaged foodThe serving you actually ate against the serving on the label
Typed entrySimple items, or anything the other two missSpelling and the right version of the food

The aim is not a perfect number. It is a log consistent enough that a change shows up. If protein on the two days after the shot is half what it is the rest of the week, a rough log will show that just as clearly as a precise one. Correcting an entry when it looks wrong takes seconds and keeps the trend honest.

Who it is for

  • People on a GLP-1 receptor agonist who want to see whether they are eating enough protein as appetite drops.
  • Anyone in a calorie deficit who is also training and wants to keep the muscle.
  • People whose protocol is meant to change appetite or body composition and who want food data to judge it against.

How it connects to the rest of the app

Food sits on the same timeline as the dose log, the training log and the supplement stack. Weight and other data from Apple Health or Health Connect come in through the wearable integrations, and body scans are dated on the same timeline, which is the only way to tell recomposition from the scale going down. Remi can answer questions about your intake from your own log. The health guides hub has the nutrition background.

On a GLP-1, the most useful single thing to log is protein on the low-appetite days after the shot. A week of photos is enough to see the pattern. The app is on the download page.

Questions people ask

How do I log food in Peptide AI?

Three ways: photograph the plate, scan a barcode, or type it. Calories and macros are recorded for each entry.

Why track food on a GLP-1?

Appetite falls, often most in the days after the shot. Tracking shows whether protein holds up. In the STEP 1 body composition substudy, lean mass was roughly 40 percent of the weight lost on semaglutide.

Does the nutrition log connect to my doses?

Yes. Food lands on the same week as the dose log, so intake can be compared across the days of a weekly injection.

Does food logging help with weight loss?

A 2011 systematic review of 22 self-monitoring studies found a consistent association between dietary self-monitoring and weight loss, though the evidence quality was limited.
